Custom Pet Portrait Prices

Every pet deserves a lovingly created portrait…

The portrait price depends on the medium (pastel or colored pencil) and size of the artwork. Have a look in my gallery to decide which medium you like the best, then choose the size that suits your budget and the space where you plan to display the artwork.

Nature, wildlife and conservation thereof have always been close to my heart, which is why I will donate 10% of the proceeds to the WWF.

Pastel portraits are created with soft pastels and pastel pencils on high-quality surfaces created specifically for pastels. I use only dry pastels in my artworks, never oil pastels. Finished pastel portraits have a soft and dreamy, almost ethereal look which catches and reflects light beautifully. The pastel color particles are very pure and fine, giving the artworks excellent pigmentation and vivid colors. Because of this they are perfect for portraits with colorful backgrounds. Due to the powdery nature of pastel pigments, pastel artworks are also more sensitive and must never be touched on the painted area. Framing pastel artworks under real glass with acid-free conservation mounting materials provides all the protection necessary. Your pastel portrait will be delivered securely packaged and accompanied by a care guide to help you care for it. When properly protected, pastel paintings and their color brilliance are very resilient over time, for you and your family to enjoy for many, many years to come.

Colored pencils are an outstanding medium for creating highly detailed, hyperrealistic drawings. They allow for the highest level of detail but also require careful building up of the layers to look good, making them a very slow medium. For instance, I spend 20 to 50+ hours on each realistic colored pencil that I draw. If you want your artwork to be an accurate representation of the original reference photo, this is probably the best option for you. Colored pencils are super versatile and can be used on a variety of paper types, such as toned and textured paper for sketches with a lot of character, or crisp white heavyweight sheets for clean and sophisticated portraits. I use both wax and oil based colored pencils from Caran D’Ache and Faber-Castell in my drawings as they compliment each other nicely.

Waiting time depends on my current work load. I will give you a timing estimate upon booking. I strive to work efficiently on every single portrait, and will notify you if there are any unexpected delays. In general, larger and highly detailed portraits require longer working hours. It is important to let me know upon booking if you require your artwork by a certain date.

Your portrait is shipped unmounted and unframed. Whether a pastel or a colored pencil portrait, it is important to frame your artwork using acid-free conservation materials to ensure its longevity. Never hang your artwork in a place where it’s subjected to direct sunlight or moisture.

Pastel artworks are more sensitive due to the nature of pastel pigments. The painted area must not be touched and the artwork should be kept in the protective wrappings facing upwards until it’s framed. Pastel paintings must be framed under real glass so that the glass does not touch the artwork. It is a good idea to use a mat/mount (passepartout) to ensure there is enough space between the glass and the artwork. Once framed, avoid any knocks or bumps to the artwork as they might cause some color particles to fall of. If you need to transport a framed pastel painting, do it always with the painting facing upwards.
